National Association of State Workforce Agencies Announces New Members of Board of Directors

WASHINGTON – The National Association of State Workforce Agencies announces the election of the 2018 board of directors. Recently at the Annual Workforce Summit in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, NASWA membership, which represents state and U.S. territory workforce agencies nationwide, selected 10 new board members to represent its regions and an executive committee. The board’s duties are to direct the business of the association.

“These Board members represent the talent, expertise and energy spanning across the country of those spearheading workforce development efforts,” said Scott B. Sanders, Executive Director. “We are very fortunate to have this group of committed individuals providing guidance for our organization and driving the national workforce agenda.”

Makeup of the new NASWA Board of Directors consists of:

  • Jennifer James-Price, Undersecretary for Workforce Development, Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, representing Region I
  • Aaron Fichtner, Commissioner, New Jersey Department of Labor & Workforce Development, representing Region II
  • Ellen Marie Hess, Commissioner, Virginia Employment Commission, representing Region III
  • Fitzgerald Washington, Secretary, Alabama Department of Labor, representing Region IV
  • Ray Allen, Secretary, Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, representing Region V
  • Larry Temple, Executive Director, Texas Workforce Commission, representing Region VI
  • Lana Gordon, Secretary, Kansas Department of Labor, representing Region VII
  • Marcia Hultman, Secretary, South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation, representing Region VIII
  • Patrick Henning, Director, California Employment Development Department, representing Region IX
  • Roy Valdez, Deputy Director, Employment & Business Solutions Division, Idaho Department of Labor, representing Region X

Executive Committee of the Board:

  • Renee Olson, Administrator of the Employment Security Division of the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, Board President
  • Jon Pierpont, Executive Director of the Utah Department of Workforce Services, Board President-Elect
  • Odie Donald II, Director of the District of Columbia Department of Employment Services, Board Secretary
  • Kelly M. Schulz, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, Board Treasurer
  • Dale Peinecke, Commissioner of the Washington State Employment Security Department, Board Past-President

Incoming Board members assumed their respective posts upon election at the NASWA Annual Workforce Summit. All Board of Directors positions serve a one-year term.




The National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) represents the 50 state and three territory workforce agencies, which oversee the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act programs, employment services, unemployment insurance, employment statistics and labor market and workforce information programming. NASWA delivers policy expertise on these issues.
