President Bush Signs Bill Extending Unemployment Insurance Benefits
President Bush has signed into law H.R. 2642, the supplemental appropriations bill that provides up to 13 weeks of extended unemployment insurance (UI) benefits in all states and $110 million in supplemental funding in the form of Grants to States for the UI administrative costs for the balance of fiscal year 2008.   (06/30/08)

UI Provisions Intact As House Passes Bipartisan War Funding Bill
The U.S. House of Representatives approved bipartisan supplemental appropriations legislation on June 19th. The legislation is supported by the White House and includes important unemployment insurance provisions for NASWA members.  (06/19/08)

Administrators Write/Call Their Lawmakers On Labor-HHS-Education Subcommittee
Over the past week, a number of state administrators who have lawmakers on the Labor-HHS- Education Appropriations Subcommittee wrote letters and made calls to their lawmakers asking them to support workforce and training priorities and oppose further cutbacks or rescissions.  (06/19/08)

House Fails to Pass Unemployment Insurance Extension
Legislation to extend unemployment insurance benefits failed with a vote of 279 to 144, short of the two-thirds needed.  (06/11/08)
Senators Request $250 Million for Workforce Programs
Senator Herb Kohl (D-WI), Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Susan Collins (R-ME) are initiating an effort to restore $250 million in job training funds rescinded by the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL).   (06/04/08)
