2016 UI Integrity Symposium

The NASWA UI Integrity Center invites you to be a part of the 2016 UI Integrity Center Symposium.   This 2-day conference will take place on December 7th and 8th, 2016 at the Sheraton Hotel, Inner Harbor, Baltimore, MD. 

This year’s event theme will focus on building upon the success of last year’s symposium, innovative solutions that address the root causes of improper payments, proven recovery and prosecution efforts, and the progress of the UI Integrity Center initiatives.

2016 December NASWA Board Meeting

2016 National UI Directors’ Conference and IT/Legal Issues Forum

The National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) and the Louisiana Workforce Commission invite you to join us for our annual UI Directors’ Conference this October in New Orleans, Louisiana.  This is the premier conference for unemployment insurance, and we hope you can join us to share innovative ideas and best practices.

The conference will take place at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside at Two Poydras Street, with a welcome reception during the evening of Monday, October 3 and a Dinner Cruise the evening of Tuesday, October 4. The conference will conclude at noon on Thursday, October 6.

The Unemployment Insurance Committee will be holding a committee meeting during the 2016 National UI Directors’ Conference and IT/Legal Issues Forum at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 3.

UI 101 Training for Vendors

The UI 101 Training for Vendors is designed to familiarize information technology professionals and other project staff with the concepts, laws, administrative regulations and business processes of the Unemployment Insurance (UI) program.  This is an introductory course designed to introduce participants to the basics of the UI Benefits and Tax regulations and processes at both the national and state level.  The course will start with a brief overview of the history and purpose of the UI program and take the trainees through the various steps in filing a claim, including: calculations for a monetary benefit amount; determining eligibility for benefits based upon the reason a person is no longer working, and whether the individual is able, available and actively seeking work.  Trainees will also get an understanding of the employer’s role in the UI system, including: establishment of a business entity within a state; signing up for an account with the appropriate state UI agency;  reporting of quarterly wages; reporting new hire and separation information; and responsibility for payment of taxes.  The training will also include an overview of the different claim types; system interfaces; data exchanges; UI claimant and employer appeal rights; and overpayments, adjustments and fraud issues.

Who should attend?
The training course targets vendor and contractor staff and project managers are interested in working with State UI Agencies on their Unemployment Insurance Information Technology Modernization project for one or more states.  Class size is limited to 30-35 participants.

Registration fee is $700.  Early Bird fee is $650 until May 16, 2016. 

Refunds/Cancellations: Registration fees, minus a $50 handling fee, will be refunded if a written notice of cancellation is received by June 6, 2016. No refunds will be made for cancellations after this date. To request a refund for your registration fee, please contact Alisha Felder. Registrants who do not attend or send a replacement will be billed the applicable registration fee.  All refunds will be paid by check approximately 45 days after the training.

NASWA Winter Policy Forum/Board of Directors Meeting

NASWA's Board of Directors will meet on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill prior to the Winter Policy Forum. The NASWA Winter Policy Forum will be held Thursday February 18, 2016 through Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill.

NASWA's annual Winter Policy Forum serves as the premier NASWA event for state workforce agency administrators and other workforce agency professionals to hear from and discuss current economic conditions in the U.S. with national experts in the field. There will be discussions on the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act as well as the legislative outlook on workforce system issues facing Congress.
