2023 Winter Policy Forum Wrap Up
A record number of over 260 individuals attended the NASWA 2023 Winter Policy Forum at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC on February 15.
The Forum was highlighted by keynote speaker, Secretary Martin J. Walsh, U.S. Department of Labor. There were expert panelists discussing labor market challenges, NASWA's 2023 Legislative Priorities, quality apprenticeships and new investments, and how to strengthen the nation’s workforce through SNAP and TANF reform, along with an economic update from Chief Economist Joelle Gamble, U.S. Department of Labor. The conference was wrapped-up by John Colbert, Co-Founder, Capitol Hill Partners, with a view of the national political landscape.
The prestigious Winter Workforce Innovation Awards were presented to four states:
- Data Insights and Innovations Award - Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation
- Merrill Baumgardner Innovation in Information Technology Award - Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development
- Pinnacle Award for Business Development - Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation
- Pinnacle Award for Workforce Development – Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development
- William J. Harris Equal Opportunity Award - Missouri Department of Higher Education & Workforce Development
