Technology Committee September Meeting & SUMMIT Recap
Thank you to those that attended the Technology Committee meeting and the NASWA Summit in New Orleans, LA. Special thanks to the outgoing Committee Chair Liz Carver (UT) for leading her last meeting as the Chair and her leadership for the last three years! Thank you to our new Committee Chair Chris Henderson (IN) and all the state presenters: Ryan Allen (TN), Tim Cummins (NM), and Robert McGough (AR). Attached are the consolidated presentations and additional materials.
- State Roundtable: State Top Priorities and Initiatives (some common themes)
- States continue to work on grant funded projects.
- Many modernization efforts are ongoing in both Workforce and UI, including maintenance and support.
- Continue to explore the use of AI, RPA, and improving other modules.
- Several states are working on data lakes and data warehouses.
- State Spotlights: Tennessee and New Mexico
- TN: Presented on modernizing their labor statistics application and data publications with better web based front end and new robust dashboards.
- NM: Presented on the use of form.io for fact finding which enabled their system to be more accessible and support multiple languages.
- Top Priorities and Initiatives Results
- Presented the results of this year’s survey of CIOs/IT Directors. Results can be viewed here.
- Results will be presented in one pager that will be shared with other Committees and Strategic Partners.
- Committee Business
- Mission and Goals: Unchanged for the upcoming year.
- Subcommittees: Policy and Awards
- Thank you to the members who assisted in both subcommittees this year. Please let us know if you are interested in participating on one of these subcommittees.
- Policy Subcommittee: Assists the Technology Committee in making policy recommendations for NASWA’s Legislative Priorities. Assists with policy questions, review of policy issues that arise throughout the year to support NASWA.
- Awards Subcommittee: Reviews nominations and selects the recipient of the Committee’s annual IT award.
- Legislative Priorities: Review process of the legislative priorities is starting soon; the policy subcommittee will review last year’s priorities and make recommendations.
- Workforce ITSC Update
- For WITSC’s annual update of their State Technology Profiles, a survey was sent to collect information from states. We received responses from 39 states and are in the process of cleaning up the data to refresh the views of the dashboard available online. Review the Combined Presentations slide deck linked above to see if your state responded (under the Workforce ITSC Update). If your state has not replied to the survey and would still like to, please email witsc@naswa.org.

- UI ITSC developed a catalog of services to support our advisory services. If your state is interested in partnering with UI ITSC, please contact Brett Flachsbarth or John Quichocho.
