Plenary Session: Finding the Music Within

Independence Ballroom

Description

Finding the Music Within

Dr. Richard Pimentel* is a 100% rated disabled Vietnam Veteran who served in the 101st Airborne Division from 1968-69. His career goal in life was to become a professional motivational and corporate speaker. These plans were seemingly derailed when he returned from Vietnam with a traumatic brain injury and a significant hearing loss. His presentation will deal with the challenges that veterans face when they return home from military service. Oliver Wendell Homes said once that “Most people go to their graves with their music still inside them.” Dr. Pimentel will tell his story and show you how other veterans can find their music and fulfill their dreams and ambitions. Dr. Pimentel will speak about NASWA’s role in helping these veterans along their way in what may be the most difficult battle and challenge of their lives. When he returned from Vietnam, Dr. Pimentel was told he had to change his dreams to fit his new circumstances. He says all of you have a better message for them. “Do not change your dreams to fit your circumstances, change your circumstances to fit your dreams.” The first step to helping someone is to believe in them. Check the schedule for Dr. Pimentel’s workshop: Effective Job Placement and Employment Strategies for Returning Veterans
