(Oklahoma City, OK) - Recently the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) presented Spencer Wong, Chief of the Labor Market Information Division (LMID) at the California Employment Development Department (EDD) with the prestigious Vladimir Chavrid Memorial Award at their 80th Annual National Conference in Oklahoma City. The Vladimir Chavrid Memorial Award is presented annually to an individual who has made significant contributions in the field of Labor Market Information (LMI) and employment security operations research.

As a 36-year veteran of the EDD, Mr. Wong has made countless contributions to California's LMID, including his long-term perspective and expertise on the application, usefulness and value of current Labor Market Information.

Under his leadership and direction, the EDD-LMID has made sustained and significant contributions to the operation, understanding and availability of Labor Market Information. Mr. Wong established the Area Services Group (ASG) in 1994, which created a network of LMI consultants in local job centers throughout California.

One of his most recent significant implementations has been creating the Regional Analysis and Support Group (RASG) to proactively support regional collaboration. The group now serves as a central hub for the ongoing development and improvement of labor market products and services. Mr. Wong has also pioneered advanced technology solutions to expand the ways in which California delivers labor market data to customers though the EDD Data Library.

"Throughout Mr. Wong's 36-year tenure, he has been a consistent innovator," said Scott Sanders, Executive Director of NASWA. "Mr. Wong's steadfast commitment to his field and to improving the manner in which customers are able to access California's labor market data are commendable and definitely deserving of this recognition."

"The EDD is grateful for the innovative ideas, services and products that Spencer Wong has initiated in our Labor Market Information Division," said the Director of the California Employment Development Department, Patrick W. Henning, Jr. "Throughout the years, Mr. Wong has shown great dedication to providing useful Labor Market Information to Californians and the nation"
