Congress Reaches Agreement to End Government Shutdown and Increase Federal Borrowing Authority
Congress passed legislation late Wednesday, October 16th, the Continuing Appropriations Act, 2014 (H.R. 2775), funding the government through January 15, 2014, and raising the debt ceiling through February 7, 2014. The Senate passed the legislation by a vote of 81 to 19 and the House followed suit a few hours later, voting 285 to 144 to approve the Senate plan. After the House vote, officials announced the federal government would reopen on Thursday and federal employees should return to work. President Obama signed the bill about 12:30 a.m. Thursday, October 17th.

The ITSC recently completed and launched the UI Business Process and IT Modernization Guidebook and Wiki. The Guidebook is a collection of UI IT Modernization project information from across the nation including best practices and lessons learned from single state and consortia based UI IT Modernization projects.
Reminder: FY2014 SIDES, SDDS and OccuCoder Subscriptions Due Date
The invoices and subscription agreements for FY2014 State Information Date Exchange System (SIDES), SUTA Dumping Detection System (SDDS), and OccuCoder were sent out on September 24, 2013, and July 26, 2013.
Unemployment Insurance Initial Claims Decrease, Continued Claims Decrease
The U.S. Department of Labor reported for the week ending October 12, 2013, seasonally adjusted unemployment insurance initial claims decreased from the previous week’s revised figure.
