What kind of jobs do post 9/11 veterans have? This talk explores the occupations of post 9/11 veterans as well as their employment and earnings. Post 9/11 veterans tend to be over-represented in a handful of occupations, such as protective services and computer and mathematical fields. They also experience an earnings advantage over their civilian peers, especially among veterans without a college degree. To further this work, we discuss a new data-sharing partnership with the Department of Defense that links military personnel records with census survey data to better understand how military training and skills translate to the civilian labor force.

Presenters: Clayton Gumber, Survey Statistician, US Census Bureau and Jonathan Vespa, Demographer, US Census Bureau
