Opening Plenary
Description
Focus on Inflation
Inflation in the United States is running at a 40-year high. Since both demand-pull and cost-push forces contribute to increases in prices, monetary and fiscal policymakers are under pressure to curb consumer demand and improve supply chain operations in order to get inflation back to the Federal Reserve’s target of 2% per year. It’s a delicate balancing act impacting labor markets. Rob Cage, a leading expert on prices and the Consumer Price Index, will steer us through these and other waters with insights on the history of inflation measures, current inflation trends, variation of inflation across goods, geography, demographic groups, and potential implications on workforce programs.
