The U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration is funding two Applied Data Analytics training classes delivered by the Coleridge Initiative, in partnership with the state of Arkansas and under a grant to the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA). Both training classes will focus on the cross-section of Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) programs and services linked to employment and wage outcomes.

Accepted class participants will learn and apply data analytic approaches to linked Arkansas SNAP, TANF, WIOA, and Unemployment Insurance (UI) employment and wage data to better understand the impacts of these programs on individuals, families, and communities. The first class will begin on September 25, 2023, and the second class will begin on January 8, 2024. The classes are designed with the understanding it is difficult for state agency staff to make time for professional development. Class schedules take this into account.

States are encouraged to apply with a team of three OR a team of six, as follows:

• Teams of three must include at least one individual experienced in coding in computer programming languages (e.g., R, SQL) and representation from at least two state agencies or distinct policy domains (e.g., workforce and labor market information, UI, WIOA, SNAP, TANF, K-12 education, post-secondary education).

• Teams of six must include at least two coders and representation from at least three, but preferably four, state agencies or distinct policy domains.
