Extension of Emergency Unemployment Compensation Passes U.S. Senate
On Monday, April 7, the Senate passed the Emergency Unemployment Compensation Extension Act of 2014 (H.R. 3979), a five month retroactive extension of the Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program by a 59-38 vote.
Secretary of Labor Testifies before Senate Committee on Appropriations Labor, HHS, Education Subcommittee
Secretary of Labor Tom Perez testified before the Senate Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies Tuesday, April 9, on the U.S. Department of Labor’s (USDOL) FY 2015 budget request.
USDOL Releases Refocus Guidance for Jobs for Veterans’ State Grant Program
On Thursday, April 10, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration (ETA) and Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS) released Training and Employment Guidance Letter (TEGL) No. 19-13, and Veterans Program Letter (VPL) 03-14 joint guidance from each agency providing the long awaited information on the refocused roles and responsibilities for Jobs for Veterans’ State Grants (JVSG) Disabled Veterans’ Outreach Program specialists (DVOPs) and Local Veterans’ Employment Representatives (LVERs).
The National Labor Exchange Goes Brainshark™
On April 7th, in response to member questions related to OFCCP’s new VEVRAA regulations, NASWA offered a Briefing on OFCCP’s Recent VEVRAA Regulations. This briefing provided an overview of the new regulations, reviewed new expectations for employer engagement with the workforce system (and the potential impact at the state and local levels), and generated action items related to policy and practice for state workforce agencies.
NASWA Equal Opportunity Committee Meets in Fort Lauderdale, Florida
NASWA’s Equal Opportunity (EO) Committee met in Fort Lauderdale, FL, April 2-3 for its second meeting of the 2013-2014 Association year, with 23 members representing 17 states attending the meeting.

National Labor Exchange Military Virtual Career Fair to be Held Next Thursday, April 17
The National Labor Exchange next week will be hosting the 2014 National Labor Exchange Military Online Career Fair, aiming to connect hundreds of successful job seekers with leading employers across the country. The online career fair will be held next Thursday, April 17 from 12-3 PM (EST).
