Labor Secretary Perez sends Letter to Speaker Boehner on EUC Extension
On Wednesday, May 7, Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez sent a letter to Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) urging him to bring the Emergency Unemployment Compensation Extension Act of 2014 (H.R. 3979) up for a vote in the House.
House Committee on Appropriations to allocate $155.7 billion for Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Bill
House Committee on Appropriations Chairman Harold Rogers (R-KY) officially announced the allocations for the 12 appropriations bills for FY 2015, known as the 302(b)s, on Thursday, May 8, as the House begins its process of marking up spending bills for Fiscal Year (FY) 2015.
WOTC Extension Remains Uncertain as House and Senate Pursue different Paths
Reauthorization of the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) will likely have to wait until after the Congressional mid-term elections as both the House and Senate are pursuing differing courses in provisions extending a set of tax credits that expired at the end of 2013 known as “tax extenders.”
States Come Together to Learn and Discuss UI Interstate Benefits and Federal Programs
NASWA, in conjunction with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development and the U.S. Department of Labor, held a two-day training session for states on April 29-30 in Madison, Wisconsin for interstate and federal program coordinators covering unemployment insurance interstate benefits, combined wage claims (CWC), and unemployment compensation for federal military (UCX) and civilian workers (UCFE) issues.
Status of UI IT Modernization in the States
The Information Technology Support Center (ITSC) has developed a resource for state workforce agencies and other unemployment insurance professionals to see where states across the country are modernizing their state unemployment insurance (UI) information technology (IT) systems.
