Budget Conferees Seeking Compromise on FY 2014 Spending Levels
The Chair of the House Committee on the Budget, Representative Paul Ryan (R-WI) and the Chair of the Senate Committee on the Budget, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), held their first formal meeting to resolve differences over spending levels between the House and Senate for fiscal 2014.

Equal Opportunity in the Workforce System 2013: Conference Presentations Now Available
On October 30th through November 1st, NASWA’s Equal Opportunity (EO) Committee hosted Equal Opportunity in the Workforce System 2013, an event held in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) on Equal Opportunity issues in the workforce and unemployment insurance systems. The purpose of the two-and-a-half day meeting, attended by local, state and federal officials, was to provide an opportunity for state and local staff with EO responsibilities to hear from top U.S. Department of Labor and other Federal agency officials on equal opportunity issues affecting the workforce and UI systems and the economy as a whole.
House Majority Leader Releases 2014 House Schedule
On Thursday, October 31st, House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) released the 2014 House Schedule, with the House scheduled to be in session 113 days in 2014.
