Senate Sends Amended Continuing Resolution (CR) to House
The possibility of a Federal government shutdown is still uncertain at this time but the likelihood continues to increase. The Senate, on Friday afternoon, passed its version of a Continuing Resolution (CR) which stripped the provision in the House passed CR (H.J. Res. 59) to eliminate funding for the Affordable Care Act. The Senate CR will now return to the House for action this weekend or Monday. If the CR is not passed in the House or amended, the Federal government is likely to shut down on Tuesday Oct. 1st, the start of Fiscal Year 2014. Click the PDF document for full details.
NASWA Hosts 77th Annual Conference, Elects new Executive Committee; Secretary of Labor Addresses State Funding
On September 18-20, 2013, NASWA and the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE) hosted the 77th NASWA Annual Conference in Denver, Colorado, welcoming stakeholders in the public workforce system from across the country to discuss the future of the workforce system given the ongoing budget constraints and increasing demands for skilled workers. For the first time in NASWA’s history, the Annual Conference was held in conjunction with the with the National Governors Association’s (NGA) annual workforce meeting of its National Association of State Workforce Board Chairs and the National Association of State Liaisons for Workforce Development Partnerships.
