WIOA Reauthorization Bill Moving Forward

On Thursday, November 21, Congressional Staff from the Senate HELP Committee and the House Committee on Education and the Workforce announced a bipartisan, bicameral agreement on legislation to reauthorize WIOA. The legislation (Bill text) was released on Friday, November 22, 2024. Congressional Staff is striving to have the bill approved this Congress without taking floor amendments in either the Senate or House.

NASWA’s President and CEO, Scott B. Sanders, along with key NASWA staff, held a separate meeting with Congressional Staff on November 26 to review specific provisions of the bill. Congressional Staff highlighted the following five key pillars for this legislation:

  1. Program Quality and Accountability,
  2. Skills Development,
  3. Pathways to Economic Opportunity for Youth & Adults,
  4. Innovation for a Skills-Based Economy, and
  5. Better Data.
