April Committee Meetings Overview

National Labor Exchange Steering Committee Meeting

The National Labor Exchange (NLx) Steering Committee made up of employers and state workforce agency representatives met April 11, 2023, in Chicago, Illinois to hear updates from NASWA President and CEO Scott Sanders, DirectEmployers Executive Director Candee Chambers, and the NLx team shared on NLx State Services and the Research Hub business lines updates. Great discussion and insights were shared from Veterans Policy Director Lori Adams, the US Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the USDOL Office of Disability Employment Policy on work that helps connect talent and opportunity.

UI Committee Meeting, UI IB Subcommittee Meeting, and Joint Committee Meeting

The Unemployment Insurance Committee and the UI Interstate Benefits Subcommittee both met in Indianapolis on Tuesday, April 18 for committee meetings. There were over 75 people in attendance for the morning joint session which featured a USDOL update provided by Jim Garner and Michelle Beebe, a NASWA update given by Scott Sanders, a UI ICON update headed by Judy Mattinson, an Integrity Center symposium announcement by UI Integrity Steering Committee Chair M. Antwon Keith (NC), along with Behavioral Insights and TIGER Teams updates provided by Jim Van Erden and Evan Littrell, respectively.

In the afternoon, the UI Committee and IB Subcommittee met separately. Both completed committee business and held engaging state roundtables.

UI Integrity Center Steering Committee Meeting

The UI Integrity Center Steering Committee met in Indianapolis, IN, April 17, 2023. Chaired by M. Antwon Keith (NC), 20 members of the committee met to discuss current events and best practices in Unemployment Insurance, and participated in a planning session on the Integrity Symposium that will be held in December 2023. More information on the Integrity Symposium will be coming soon!

UI ITSC and Workforce ITSC Steering Committee Meetings, Joint Meeting

The UI IT Support Center (UI ITSC) and Workforce IT Support Center (Workforce ITSC) Steering Committees met in Arlington, VA, starting April 26, 2023. Both Steering Committees heard updates from the U.S. Department of Labor and discussed committee projects and initiatives.

Highlights of the joint meeting included an overview of Multi-State Data Collaboratives. There was also discussion on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) including how the committees can support states as they explore AI technologies.
