Veterans Affairs’ Committee Meeting - January 2024

The Veterans Affairs Committee held a virtual meeting on December 6, 2023, with 82 individuals in attendance. Agenda topics included updates on the Jobs for Veterans State Grant and National Veterans Training Institute by Bek Haydin and Brandon Webb from USDOL VETS, reports from three working groups (marketing, expanding DVOP eligibility, serving Veterans with disabilities), a 2023 Veterans Conference debrief from Lori Adams, NASWA, and a presentation on Vet Central and the National Labor Exchange by Mike Witt and Kim Lott from Direct Employers. NASWA’s Julie Squire shared information about recent and upcoming association activities. Monty Webb, a Washington Local Veterans Employment Representative, presented a “Promising Practice” on Compassion Fatigue Awareness. Webb’s information was a featured workshop at the 2023 Veterans Conference. Members also heard updates on pending legislation, new partnerships, and future meetings. The committee’s next meeting will be a virtual call on January 11, 2024.
